Violin Repair Program - Coursework

Spring Semester

In the spring semester, the work is concentrated in two 8-credit classes that give students a full range of hands-on experience.

     • Bridges and Soundposts - Fitting soundposts and bridges to individual instruments and carving bridges for optimum sound and aesthetic appeal
     • Violin Repairing - Violin repairs, such as top removal and replacement, patches, repairing cracks and placing cleats

Violin Repair students are also required to demonstrate the ability to play the violin in order to adjust the instruments set up. A one-credit introductory course is offered in Violin Playing that teaches basic violin skills, including hand position, scales and simple pieces. Qualified students may test out of this course for a small fee.
