Band Instrument Repair Program - Instructors

• John Huth

John Huth has trained woodwind and brass instrument repair technicians in Red Wing’s Band Instrument Repair (BIR) program for 16 years with successful graduates serving musicians around the globe. John is a Master Clinician for NAPBIRT (the National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians), having presented numerous clinics throughout the United States for the organization. He is a two-time Dick Rusch award recipient and a one-time Best General Clinician award recipient from NAPBIRT. John has written numerous articles on repair for NAPBIRT’s TechniCom journal. Articles on maintenance and minor repair have appeared in the Instrumentalist magazine, the Kjos Journal, and the International Trumpet Guild Journal. He has produced a number of videos on brass repair, tool making, and metal lathe operation. John was also involved with Yamaha’s Instrument Service Training as part of its Dealer Development Series. He recently presented with his BIR colleagues to music teachers and performers at the MidWest Band and Orchestra Clinic and the International Horn Society Symposium.

John has his Bachelor of Music degree from Bowling Green State University and his Master of Music Degree (Trumpet) from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He was apprentice-trained as a repair technician and joined the teaching faculty of Southeast Technical in 1987.
